Fred. E. Vandermer, 90, of Speers Hill, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Emil and Erma Zimmerman Vandermer, he was born in Charleroi on July 24, 1917. He was a member of Speers United Methodist Church, where he bad been the choir director for 41 years. Fred and his wife had resided in Speers Hill for over 50 years. He retired in 1979 from the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Betty E. Soles Vandermer; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jack and Barbara Vandermer, of Ellicott City, Md., Kenneth and Janet Vandermer, of Irwin, and Robert and Barbara Vandermer, of Rostraver Township; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Claire and George Soles and Ivan Benedetti, all of Speers Hill; five grandchildren, John Vandermer and wife Noel, of Baltimore, Md., Kimberly Bloodworth and husband Courtney, of Birmingham, Ala., Kevin Vandermer and wife Amy, of Irwin, Jill Palmer and husband the Rev. Kevin Palmer, of Chesterton, Ind., and Daniel Vandermer, of Rostraver Township; and six great-grandchildren, Roy and Alexis Vandermer, Adele Bloodworth, Mason Vandermer and Abigail and Sophia Palmer. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Benedetti, in 2006. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY INC., www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com, (724- 929-5300), 700 Broad. Ave., Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be in the Speers United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Les Hutchins officiating. Interment will follow in Charleroi Cemetery.
