Circumstances of His Death and Preparations for the Funeral.
- - -
Yesterday we made a hasty record of the sudden and sorrowful death of our esteemed fellow townsman, Jacob R. Hardenbergh.

To the facts already given there is little more of interest to add. He and Mrs. Hardenbergh soon after their marriage one week ago today, went to New York intending to proceed further and probably to Chicago if Mr. Hardenbergh's health would admit of the journey.

They stopped at a hotel on 27th street and Mr. Hardenbergh was apparently in as good health as he had enjoyed at any time lately.

Yesterday morning they were sitting in their parlor after breakfast discussing the idea of taking a ride in Central Park, when Mrs. Hardenbergh noticed that he was talking a little incoherently and asked him if he felt unwell. He replied to the effect that it was nothing and would pass of in a few minutes. In five minutes he was insensible and died about an hour later at 11:25.

As soon as Mr. Hardenbergh was seized, Mrs. Hardenbergh telegraphed to this city for John Buckalew, who had nursed him during former illnesses. She also telegraphed for Dr. F. M. Donohue, and for his cousin, Cornelius L. Hardenbergh. At the same time she called in a New York physician and everything possible was done for the patient's relief.

Mr. Buckalew reached New York first and was followed by Dr. Donahue and C. L. Hardenbergh, but before their arrival Mr. Hardenbergh was dead. The cause of death is given as heart disease complicated, Dr. Donahue thinks, with some kidney trouble.

The body was brought to this city last night and conveyed to his late residence, No. 88 Bayard street, where it was taken in charge by Undertaker James L. Rogers.

The funeral services will be conducted at the house by Rev. Dr. M. H. Hutton at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, and the interment will take place in the family plot in Willow Grove cemetery.
