She was the daughter of John H. Slack and Lydia Hastings Slack. On April 19, 1861 as Marcia V. Slack, she married John F. Hopkins at the District of Columbia.

Mrs. Marcia V. N. Hopkins, for many years a clerk in the Treasury Department, died Friday of pneumonia, at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Frank Fauth, at the junction of New Cut and Foxhall Roads. The deceased was in the fifty-third year of her age and was the widow of John Hopkins. She had only been living in this section for about a year and leaves several children. The funeral took place this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from Grace Protestant Episcopal Church, Rev. Mr. Bourne officiating.
