Joan was born August 8, 1932 to parents Beatrice and Lester Lumbert. She grew up in Ashley, Michigan graduating from Ashley High School in 1950. Joan married Russell Peters in 1949 and had four children.
Joan worked at one time for Wolverine World Wide, for Ithaca Public Schools in the office, as a playground attendant, and as a lunch lady; but she was most proud when working as a Deputy for the Gratiot County Sheriff and as a 911 dispatcher.
Joan retired from the Sheriff Department and enjoyed a full active life traveling and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Ithaca United Methodist Church.
Joan is preceded in death by her son Richard (Dick) Peters, Parents Beatrice and Lester Lumbert, sisters Marilyn Amspoker and Jacqueline (Jackie) and Tad Muscott, and brother Charles (Spike) and Patricia (Pat) Lumbert.
She is survived by daughter Carol McLane of Portland, MI; sons David Peters of Alma and Kurt (Kim) Peters of Ithaca; sister Janet (Jerry) Vanek; Russell Peters; daughters-in-law Judy Liccardi of Wrens, Georgia and Julie Peters of Madison Heights, MI, eightgrandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; and many other loved family members.
Funeral services for Joan will be 11am Monday, June 3, 2019 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Pastor Gary Simmons will officiate and burial will follow at Ithaca Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4pm and 6-8pm Saturday, June 2 at the funeral home. In lieuof flowers, donations may be made to the Ithaca United Methodist Church.
