Mr. Richard S. Stroud was born at Sauk City Indiana April 23, 1843 and passed away at the home of of Walter Strong east of Marble Rock, July 9, 1923 at the advance age of 80 years 2 months and 16 days. His early life was spent in Indiana, later coming to Iowa, where he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Miller, at Waukon in 1880. Three children were born, William who died in infancy, Evart Stroud of Marble Rock , Mrs. Allen Boone of Summit South Dakota and Verne Stroud an adopted son, now living in Marble Rock. Mr. Stroud has been a resident of Floyd Co since 1879, where he has been an industrious citizen, until ill health compelled him to give up his work a few years ago. His death was sudden, he having risen Monday morning and was resting on the couch while Mrs. Strong was preparing breakfast. She notice his change in appearance and called her husband but, Mr. Stroud had passed away, The funeral was held at the home of his son Evert Stroud at 2 O'clock, on Tuesday afternoon, and was in charge of Rev. P.M. Dwello, with music by Mrs. Charles Moore, Mrs Geo Barber and Mrs. S.W. McNich. Interment was Hillside Cemetery . Mrs Stroud died 17 years ago.
