Joseph served as a Private, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York and was a member of the New York National Guard prior to the war.

His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on February 10, 1941, prior to the war, from Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at that time, as being Single, without dependents.

Joseph was "Killed In Action" in Belgium during the war. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
