Mr. Patrick Brooks, a former Smith County Board of Education member and lifelong farmer of the Difficult Community was pronounced dead at 8:06 a.m. Thursday morning October 1, 2015 at the Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage after his wife found him unresponsive at their Smith Hollow Lane farm home. He was 63. Funeral services from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted Sunday afternoon October 4th at 3 p.m. with Bro. Jackie Dillehay and Mr. Brooks pastor Eld. Mark Horton officiating. Burial followed in the Brooks family lot at Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.

One of two children of the late Lester Bethel Brooks who died at the age of 64 on December 14, 1984 and Freddie Juanita West Brooks who died at the age of 76 on July 1, 2009, he was born Patrick Alan Brooks at McFarland Hospital in Lebanon on July 26, 1952. On October 5, 2002 at Maces Hill he was united in marriage to Trousdale County native the former Ann Hollis Huffines Givens.

Mr. Brooks was a member of the Smith County School Board for fourteen years from September 1983 until August 1997 and served a term as chairman. Named after his two daughters, he owned and operated the B & S Grocery in the Difficult Community for five and a half years and was a former partner in the B & W Reality Co. in Carthage and was a licensed Tennessee Real Estate agent. He also had been employed in the purchasing division at the Dana Corporation in Gordonsville and before retirement was employed at Flex-Tronics in Gallatin. Mr. Brooks was a member of the Dixon Springs Missionary Baptist Church. In 1970 he graduated from Smith County High School where he majored in agriculture and science.

Surviving in addition to his wife of almost 13 years are four children, Beth Brooks Grisham & husband Jeffery of Monoville, Sara Brooks Davenport & husband Richard of Lebanon, Phil Givens & wife Brandy of Hartsville, Teresa Givens Justice of Pleasant Shade; sister, Sherry Shoulders & husband Eddie of Pleasant Shade; seven grandchildren, Brooke & Ava Grisham, Collin & Owen Davenport, Hannah Justice, Hailey & Case Givens.
