Oklahoma City resident Anna Faye Johnson, 92, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, in Oklahoma City.

Anna Faye Johnson was born on May 19, 1923. She came into this world with her twin sister, Fannie Mae Withrow, who preceded her in death. Faye was the last of nine children born to James and Bertha Withrow. She was born and raised in Tushka, Oklahoma. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray Merritt. While serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, he was killed. Soon after she gave birth to their first son, Danny Merritt. She moved to Shawnee in 1945 where she lived and worked. She was a Rosie the Riveter during the war time. She lived through the great depression as well World War II. In 1950, she met and fell in love with Clyde Johnson of Meeker, Oklahoma. They built their lives together for 60 years and raised their children in the Shawnee/Bethel area.

Faye Johnson was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is known by her grandchildren as “granny.”

She took time over the years to help take care of her grandchildren. Faye, not only told the grandkids she loved them, she showed it through her actions: by taking them fishing, teaching them to sew, cook, play card games, and many other things. Also, she would discipline them with a “switch” if necessary. Ask them; they will tell you.

Faye Johnson moved to Oklahoma City during Clyde’s illness. After his passing she moved to an independent living facility. She quickly made new friends and started a new life during her final six years while living there. She was the greeter for all the new people who moved in, she made banana pudding to help her sick friends feel better, and she made them birthday gifts, such as tea towels for them to hang on their stoves. She loved her friend Lorrane and husband Bud. They became like family to her.

She will be missed by all of us dearly, especially her family: her children - Danny Merritt (wife Sharon), Vicki Thurman (husband Ronnie), Lavada Loper (husband Fred) and Royce Johnson, along with seven grandchildren, Darrett, Destry, Sayward (husband Chris), Sam (wife Amanda), Mindy, Jesse (wife Thaala), and Nicole (husband Bobby), and eight great-grandchildren, Tristan Sarah, Emily, David, Tatum, Noel, Bryan and Abigail. Also, she had many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at Resthaven Funeral Home with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
