Mrs. Shirley Rakestraw Hendrix, age 72 of Griffin, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Brightmoor Hospice.
Mrs. Hendrix was born in Thomaston, Georgia on June 2, 1942. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Raybon and Rosa Carroll Raybon; husbands, Bobby Rakestraw and Jim Hendrix; son, Billy Rakestraw. She was a member of Griffin First Assembly, where she was retired teacher at Griffin Christian School. She formerly taught for Griffin-Spalding School System.
Survivors include, her children, Connie Smith and her husband, Mitchell, Ricky Rakestraw and his wife, Paula, Tony Rakestraw and his wife Lynn, Melissa Clark and her husband, Jamie, Tim Rakestraw and his wife, Kristie; grandchildren, Lucas Rakestraw, Jessica Rakestraw, Josh Smith, Jenna Medders, Ryan Rakestraw, Ashleigh Rakestraw, Lauren Rakestraw, Larkin Rakestraw, Macie Rakestraw, Olivia Rakestraw, Kendall Rakestraw; great grandchildren, Lyla Grace Rakestraw, Berklei Rakestraw, Brinlei Rakestraw, Ansley Rakestraw, Jayden Rakestraw and Olivia Rakestraw; step-grandchildren, Allen Bishop and Macy Blane; brother, Paul Raybon; sister, Mary Eubanks; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mrs. Shirley Rakestraw Hendrix will be on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 4:30 pm in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Rick Foster will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
