Ruth Wilcox Shoffner, age 100, passed away August 12th at Magnolia Square Nursing Facility where she had been a resident since May 15, 2002. Ruth was born July 4, 1906, in Polk County, Missouri, the daughter of Augustus and Addie Callaway Wilcox. She was graduate of Elfindale Academy for Girls, Springfield, and Southwest Baptist College (now University), Bolivar and was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. Ruth married her childhood sweetheart Thomas M. Shoffner and they shared 72 years of marriage until his death in 1997. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Lorene Wilcox; three brothers who died in infancy; her son-in-law, John W. Allan and grandson-in-law, Paul Anstutz. She is survived by her son, Thomas Shoffner and his wife, Mary Lou; her daughters, Bette Gilbert and her husband, Tom, Mary Jean Wilson and Emily Allan; seven grandchildren, Kelly Gilbert and his wife, Cathy, Palm Springs, Calif., Roseanne Hartung and her husband, Ken, Linda Johnson, Rob Wilson, Tim Wilson, Julie McCann and her husband, Ed, and Amy Allan, all of the Springfield area; and eleven great-grandchildren, Madison, Chelsea and Alexander Gilbert, Brenna Johnson, Todd and Amy, Adam and Riley Wilson, Jessica, Madeline and Cassandra McCann; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Burk. Ruth was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and her memory will be cherished forever. Ruth's family is grateful for the wonderful care provided by the staff at Magnolia Square and Community Hospice. Graveside services will be held Monday, August 14, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Brighton Cemetery, Brighton, Mo. No formal visitation is planned, but friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Ruth's name to St. Judes Children's Hospital or any chosen charity.
