"JONAS WARD NYE (Ward, David, Jonathan, Benjamin), born at Douglas, Mass., November 27, 1795. In 1811 he went to Elba, N. Y., where he married March 8, 1827, Polly Blodgett. Being a civil engineer he went to Washington, D. C., in 1827, and was connected with the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal; later he was an instructor in Three Springs Academy, Frederick, Md. From 1841 he resided in Washington, where he died in November 1877."
