Mrs. Mary Joy Keel was born in Medellin, Columbia of USA Missionary parents. The family of five children left South America for pastoral duties in New York City and then came to San Antonio in 1950's. Miss Mary Joy Knutson was in the class of 1969, Highland H.S.The ministry to GI's trained in San Antonio ready for Vietnam duties introduced Ms. Mary Joy to U.S. Army Sp4 Thomas A. Keel, medic. Mary and Thomas were married 20 August 1970 while Sp4 Keel was a Clinical Specialist (LVN) student. Vietnam duty for Sp5 Keel began immediately after their first anniversary.Both served together in frequent deployments, officer promotion leading to Regular Army status. Mary Joy typed graduate study research papers for CW3 Keel. Diagnosed 1999 Mrs. Keel valorously fought over demanding Metabolic Syndrome (Diabetes). At age 64 Mary Joy Keel expired at 11:15am. Mary and Thomas were happily married 45 years and 35 days inspite of near fatal 1987 Line of Duty injuries and diability retirement 1989 to San Antonio, TX.Preceded in death were parents Lawrence J. Knutson and Judith E Knutson; Rebecca Larson. Survivors are Thomas A Keel, Timothy, and Mark Knutson, Paul and Miriam Annan, Ben and Joy Marie Arnold with two children and Mathew A. Keel.Mary Joy Keel is a firm believer in John 14:6-7: Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you know Me, then you will also know my Father." Knowing both the eternal Father and Son the reward is perpetual life beyond mortal days.SERVICESVisitation will be Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South.
