Benjamin Ferdinand Benson, 87, of Jamesport, Missouri, (formerly of Kansas City, Missouri), died Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Lake Viking Health Care Center in Gallatin. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, at the First Baptist Church in Jamesport. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Jamesport.

Benjamin was born September 13, 1915, to Ben and Anna (Anderson) Benson, in Grain Valley, Missouri.

He graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1933.

On October 30, 1937, Benjamin married Gladys E. Hale, in Kansas City, Missouri. She preceded him in death in 2000.

Benjamin worked for the Kansas City Star for six years. He then took a position as manager of the McCollum Farm (what is now the site of KCI Airport.) In 1947, he went to work for Patti Construction Co., working on the Truman Library. He joined the Bennett Construction Co. in 1957, and retired from there in 1982. Benjamin attended the Jamesport Baptist Church. He was a member of the Ararat Shrine and Raytown Blue Lodge.

Benjamin was preceded in death by a son, Earl Benson, in 1966, brother, Oscar Benson, sister, Leanna Moore, granddaughter, Shelly Russell in 1998.

Survivors include daughter, Carol Cass, Jamesport, Missouri; three sisters, Annabelle Benson, Vivian Logan, Blue Springs, Missouri, Mary Medley, Kansas City, Kansas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
