On September 8, 1803, Johannes Rischstein , his wife Louise, and their children Catharina Elizabeth, Johannes Jacob, Johannes Jost, Christiana, and Johannes arrived at the Port of Philadelphia, as new immigrants to America. They had traveled in the Sailing Ship "Fortune" which had sailed from Hamburg, Germany.

Some years later, the surname "Rischstein" was anglicized to "Ristine."

Following in the occupation of his father, Johannes Ristine Jr. was a Philadelphia Inn Keeper and Tavern Keeper for most of his working life. He had assisted his father until his father's death in 1843.

In about 1833/34 he married Catherine, whose maiden name is unknown. They raised at least five children; listed below in the order of their birth:

John A. (1835-????)
Emma (1841-????)
James (1842-????)
Catherine (1844-????)
Sarah (1849-????)

The 1841 through 1854 McElroy's Philadelphia Directories as the Proprietor of a tavern located at the intersection of Master Street and Front Street in Kensington. The bottle pictured on this Memorial was estimated to have been made well within that time frame. In 1851, John appears to have opened a second tavern at Penn's Avenue and Coates. He continued with two taverns fom 1851 through 1854.

Catherine died in 1866 of Consumption. At that time, John was the owner of a Tobacco and Cigar Shop.
