CARBONDALE - Susan Kay (Nance) Jennings, formerly of Carbondale, died Sept. 9, 2015, at her home in York, England, surrounded by her husband and children. She was born Oct. 24, 1960, in Eldorado to the Rev. Murriel and Janette (Drury) Nance. She spent most of her childhood and teen years living in Southern Illinois. She attended high school at Carbondale Community High School and Carlyle High School, graduating with the class of '78. Susan attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She also worked in youth and campus ministries at Little Grassy United Methodist Camp, First United Methodist Church of Marion and the Wesley Foundation at SIU. While working at the Wesley Foundation, Susan worked with Ian Jennings , who was here on a visa from the United Kingdom. They married on April 13, 1985, and moved to England. Susan worked as the administrative assistant to the headmaster at York High School. She enjoyed cooking, reading and spending time with family and friends. She usually made an annual trip to the United States to spend time with her American family. She loved to laugh and could put people at ease with her conversational skills and sense of humor. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Sarah Jennings , Rachel Jennings (Ryan Liquorish) and Ellen Jennings; father and stepmother, the Rev. Murriel (Brenda) Nance of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Sharon Nance (Gretchen Lingle) of Portland, Oregon, and the Revs. Judy (John) Vidakovich of Petersburg; stepsister, Cheri Orto of Mount Vernon; two stepbrothers, Gary (Kristi) Orto of Newbern, Tennessee, and Gregg (Teresa) Orto of Stafford, Virginia; special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins; and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Janette Nance; and brother, Bruce Nance. Services will be Saturday, Oct. 3, in England in Acomb Methodist Church. Also, services will be at a later date in Illinois. Susan 's family has asked for memorial gifts to be made to St. Leonard's Hospice, which provided such excellent care for Susan during the last few weeks of her life.
