Jean and John R. lived in St. Simons Island, GA, while he was attending Naval Training. The Cochrans later moved to New York where Jean supported the family while John R. earned his Doctorate from Columbia University. Jean and John R. eventually returned to Kalamazoo where he became Superintendent of Schools. They next moved to Port Huron in 1971 where Jean and John R. became involved in the community, including supporting the local YMCA, Kiwanis, Hospice and the Port Huron Hospital as well as the Port Huron Public Schools. After John R.'s death in 1981, Jean was an active member of the Black River Country Club, an avid bridge player, a member of a bowling league and never missed her daily crossword. She continued her support of the Port Huron area and dabbled in the stock market.
She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (James) Feldt of Statesboro, Georgia, Jill Cochran (Roger Milliken) of Marietta, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Lee J. and Bobbie Brown of Cadillac, Michigan; and grandchildren, Susannah (Matthew) Thomas of Midland, Michigan, and Kirsten and Ian Milliken of Marietta, Georgia.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 1 o'clock at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, 1720 Elk Street at Pine Grove Avenue, Port Huron.
