A long time Hermiston resident, having lived in Hermiston since 1971, Dean Bush, 87 died on Monday Sept. 28, 2015 at his home after experiencing failing health.

Dean was born on Nov. 3, 1927 at Republican City, Nebraska to Earl and Ruth Bush, and lived there until he was in the third grade, when their family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. During World War II, Dean’s family moved several times as their father was in construction and they moved near construction sites. Dean graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1945. Although the war had just ended, Dean joined the Marines and served his country for 2 years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1948. Two weeks later, Dean Bush and Marjorie Albee were married at the Twin Falls United Methodist Church. Dean attended and graduated from Idaho State College, School of Pharmacy in Pocatello, Idaho in 1951.

Dean served his Pharmacy apprenticeship in Richland, Washington, and then he and Marge moved to Pendleton, Oregon where the 3 boys joined the family. David was the first, then Larry and then Randy Bush. While there, Dean was a snare drummer and founding member of the Pendleton Drum & Bugle Corps. He enjoyed playing with the Drum Corps, and they took many trips together, and also played at the Pendleton Round-Up. After 12 years in Pendleton, Dean and his family moved to Kennewick, Washington, where he worked, and Marge continued raising the boys, In 1971, the family moved to Hermiston where he worked at Hermiston Drug for many years.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth & Earl Bush; newborn daughter, Baby Girl Bush; his eldest son, David Bush; and, his brother, Bob Bush, and sister-in-law, Aleene Bush.

Dean is survived by his wife, Marge, and sons Larry & Randy, all of Hermiston; Valerie (David) Bush of Lincoln City, Oregon, grandson Nathan Bush of Molalla, Oregon and granddaughter Nicole (Ian) Stevens in Salem, Oregon.

Dean was a loving husband and father. He was a hard working and humble, and had a very even temper. He was a superb cartographer, having the ability to look at a map of an area he hadn’t been to, and envision all the surrounding terrain. He also loved astronomy and stargazing. He took the family on many trips to the Oregon coast, and all around the west, Canada & Minnesota. He was also very patriotic, considered himself a lifelong Marine, and nearly reenlisted in the Marines during the Korean war.

Dean was cremated and his ashes buried in a funeral plot. Funeral Services were held on Saturday Oct. 3rd at 1 PM at the Hermiston United Methodist Church. After words, Marge and Larry attended a private burial ceremony, with Military Honors, at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston performed funeral arrangements.
