Elizabeth "Betty" Duncan Crowder, 01/09/1925 - 09/28/2015

Funeral service for Mrs. Elizabeth Duncan Crowder, 90, of Alexander City, will be Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Dr. Lewis Archer and Dr. Todd Henderson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alexander City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Betty was born in Alexander City on January 9, 1925. She attended Alex City Schools and the University of Alabama. She married John Scott Crowder on September 17, 1949.

Betty was very active in the community. She was chosen in 1989 as Alexander City’s First Lady for her participation as a foster parent for many years and her organizational efforts to establish the Meals on Wheels program. She was also cited for her work with the PTA, Campfire Girls, and Boy Scouts, as well as her contributions, along with her husbands, to the Gideons and Camp ASCCA.

Betty and her family were very active in the First United Methodist Church. She served as a Youth Counselor, frequent chaperone, and on many committees over the years.

The Crowders owned and operated Duncan & Son Furniture Store in Alexander City until Mr. Crowder’s death.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Vivian Thomas Duncan and Edward James Duncan; her sister, Helen Duncan Fox; and her brother Edward Duncan.

Betty is survived by her son, Edward Duncan Crowder; daughter, Helen Crowder Boswell; grandson, Duncan Scott Boswell; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was loved by all who knew her.

The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to Alexander City Meals on Wheels (Russell Medical Center), 3316 US-280, Alexander City, AL 35010.
