Sarah Kiddy Elder, of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 10, 2006. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends at LewisGale Medical Center. Born in Kilsyth, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Kiddy.

She was a devoted servant of the Lord and along with her late husband, Leighwood S. Elder, they ministered in the Nazarene and Wesleyan Church organizations serving in various capacities. She was a member of the Penn Forest Wesleyan Church and attended Cave Spring Baptist Church being a member of the Friendship Class. Her passion was music and was happiest praising her Savior through singing and playing the piano and organ. She retired form the Virginia Employment Commission with 28 years of service where she touched many lives providing leadership and career guidance. She was a graduate of Virginia Western Community College. She continued to be very active after her retirement working part-time and studying her music.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, James Ray Kiddy and sister, Nancy K. Ara.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Bob Merchant, Roanoke; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Carolyn Kiddy, Orlando, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Dan Butler, Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Earl Phoebus, Beckley, W.Va.; brother-in-law, Richard Ara, Roanoke; brother-in-law, Joseph Elder, Edwardsburg, Mich.; special niece and husband, Debi and Russell Abbuhl, Windermere, Fla.; niece and husband, Karen and Roy Merritt, Pompano Beach, Fla.; and several other nieces, nephews and many friends.

She provided her entire family with guidance, spiritual support and utmost love throughout her life. While she is truly missed, she now is with her Heavenly family and singing in the choir of all choirs. The family is especially grateful for the many friends and the staff on 6-west at Lewis-Gale Medical Center that have shown their love, support and concern through her short illness.

Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel at 12 noon, Saturday, August 12, 2006. The Rev. Dale Reynolds will be officiating assisted by Dr. Chip Roberson, the Rev. Arlie Cook and the Rev. Myron Atkinson. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 11, 2006 at Oakey's South Chapel.
