Audrey Gay Smith Vance 1938 ~ 2009 Audrey Gay Smith Vance, age 71, beloved mother, daughter, sister, grammy, passed away on April 23, 2009 surrounded by her loving family as she was reunited with her sweetheart Arden Vance.She was born on March 28, 1938 to Patriarch Eldred G. Smith and Jeanne Ness Smith. She married her sweetheart, Arden A. Vance, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on September 11, 1959. Gay was a devoted mother and loved spending her time supporting her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors. Her hobbies included crocheting and sewing for family and friends. She was a self-confessed tomboy and enjoyed fixing things around the house. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gay served in various callings but especially enjoyed serving as ward music leader. She also loved serving in the baptistry of the Jordan River Temple and treasured the friendships of her "temple family". Gay is survived by children Ron (Patti) Vance, Dwayne (Cheryl) Vance, Mindy (Jeff) Valdez, Natalie (Howard) Hurd, Marci (TJ) Staples, Heidi Vance; 17 grandchildren that loved and adored their Grammy, father Patriarch Eldred G. (Hortense) Smith, sisters Miriam (Ted) Skeen, Sylvia (Craig) Isom, twin brother Gary (Elizabeth) Smith, brother Raynor Smith. Preceded in death by husband Arden A. Vance, mother Jeanne N. Smith, in-laws, Giles and Erda Vance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the West Jordan Utah Stake Center (2666 W 7000 S). Family and friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday April 27, at Redwood Memorial Mortuary (6500 S Redwood Road) and again 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment at Redwood Memorial Cemetery.
