Matthew Ryan Bailey, 20, of Jefferson, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 7. He was born on Nov. 18, 1991 in Ellsworth, the son of Myles and Sharon Gondek Bailey. He grew up in Jefferson and attended local schools and was a graduate of Camden Hills High School class of 2010.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors. In the wintertime he could be found outside in the snow, or riding on his snowmobile. In the summer you could find him on the water: swimming, doing water sports, fishing or boating. He liked to spend time on the computer and really enjoyed listening to music. He was into a lot of different kinds of music and not just one genre could be categorized as his favorite. When he was younger, he played the hand bells and the trombone and tried his hand in learning to play the guitar. He also had an artistic side to him which he shared in different forms.

He was involved in scouting, soccer, basketball and T-ball for many years. He loved animals and always had pets growing up presently Lady, Willow, Olive and Lucy. His pets were always near and dear to his heart. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends and being around family. He was caring and sensitive and was always looking out for anyone. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and had many friends. He accepted everyone for who they were and he was proud to call you his friend. He was known as a great kid with a big heart and a wonderful sense of humor.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Charles Bailey Jr. and dear friend, Donald Bisset.

Survivors include his parents, Myles and Sharon Bailey of Jefferson; fiancée, Jessica Thayer of West Gardiner; birth mother, Jaqui Smith of New Baltimore, Mich.; birth father, Chris Daniels of Verona; brothers, Logan Daniels of Bangor, and Sam Rothwell of Buxton; grandparents, Francis and Janet Gondek of Jefferson, Karen and Richard Rienalter of Cuba, N.Y., Nancy Daniels of Eddington, and Arnitha Tatum of Inverness, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family, his family tree being equal to the tree of life.

He had many friends as well who shared in the circle of love he was surrounded by.

Time of visitation 4-6 p.m., Wed., Sept. 12 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro with a celebration of life to follow at the funeral home beginning at 6 p.m. with Peta vanVuuren officiating.
