Married Otto Hilmar Hassing in July 26, 1894; later divorced. Their children: Clifford Eugene, Magda Evelyn, Esther L, Gertrude C. and Odean known as Dean. Dean went his whole life by the last name of his step-father John Van Houten.

MIDVALE—Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Swaner Van Houten, 79, of Midvale, formerly of Ogden, died Saturday in a Salt Lake hospital of pneumonia.

Mrs. Van Houten was born February 7, 1876, in Salt Lake City, a daughter of Agust John and Eliza W. Swaner. On April 22, 1914 she was married to John Van Houten in Farmington. The marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Mr. Van Houten died in 1944.

Surviving are one son: Dean Van Houten, Ogden; four daughters; Mrs. S.J. Bannon, Midvale; Mrs. E. L. Bertolina, Salt Lake City; Mrs. T. W. Russey, Los Angeles; Mrs. Art Hobbs, Hawthorne, California; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Draper LDS Second Ward. Friends may call at 260 E. South Temple St. Salt Lake City, tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward chapel Wednesday from noon to 12:45 p.m.
