The New York Yankees lost their most ardent supporter when David S. Eddy Sr. left the ballpark for the final time on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at age 90. With all the athleticism of his youth, he slid headfirst through the Gates of Heaven. "Safe at Home," called St. Peter. With a fist bump to the Babe and a high five from the Iron Horse, he rushed into the open arms of his adoring wife and #1 fan Marian, who predeceased him on July 21, 2012. Most ironically, he peacefully drifted off to eternal sleep at home, in his favorite chair, watching the Yanks face the Orioles. Born in Watertown, NY, to the Rev. William Eddy and Eva Tucker Eddy, he graduated from Clayton High School, lettering in baseball, basketball and track, then received a degree from Central City Business Institute, where he met his future wife. His entire career was spent at Smith Corona, retiring as a type designer/engineer from the Cortland SCM facility.

David also worked for years as a part-time bartender at Enrico's Restaurant. Hobbies included sports, woodworking, furniture refinishing, and collecting postal cards, stamps and antique tools. He was also a highly accomplished calligrapher.

David was predeceased by his parents; his step-mother, Elvia McNickle; his brother, Dr. William Nelson Eddy; four stepsisters, Evelyn Jenkins, Camilla Barton, Minnie Scott and Georgia Law; his sister-in-law, Flora Mullin Briggs; and his bride of 68 years, Marian Mullin Eddy.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles T. Eddy, David S. Eddy Jr. and Dorothea "Dot" Eddy; grandsons, Steven (Sheila) Eddy, James (Martha) Eddy, David Eddy III (Steve Richardson); great-granddaughter Olivia and great-grandson Truman. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Jane (Jim) Speight, Kathy (Tom) Sendall, Mark Briggs, Barbara Jean Briggs (Bob Danielson), William Briggs (Keith Perron); his cousin-in-law, Jenoyce Wooldridge; family members in England; a number of cousins; and several stepnieces and -nephews.

Calling hours will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James St., on Saturday, October 20, followed by a service at the funeral home.

Private interment will be at a later date.

Because of his wife's long battle with Alzheimer's, David requested that donations be made to the CNY Chapter of the Alzheimer's Assoc., 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204-1361. Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson 463-4320
