John F. Birkenstock

John F. Birkenstock, 927 Diestel Rd., retired salesman, died Friday at 3:15 a.m. at his residence after a lingering illness.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Birkenstock, he came to Salt Lake City about 1910. He married Bertha Burno in Allentown, Pa.

Mr. Birkenstock was a retired salesman for Salt Lake Hardware Co. and Spalding Sporting Goods Co. Prior to the time he came to Salt Lake City, he was manager of the American Hotel in Allentown.

For the past 21 years Mr. Birkenstock had been Tyler and Marshal of Argenta Lodge No. 3, Free and Accepted Masons.

He is survived by his widow and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Milke, New York City.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday noon in the Masonic Temple, 650 E. South Temple, under direction of Argenta Lodge No. 3. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
