William worked as a Mechanical Engineer and retired from his job as an Engineer Manager for Wean United in Youngstown, OH. He graduated from Union High School in 1941 and then later graduated from Youngstown State University in 1950. He had served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 and received numerous citations including the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American and European Theatre Medals, two bronze stars, and World War II Victory Medal. He also was a past president for the 100th Infantry Division Association. He was a member of St. James the Apostle Church and belonged to the St. James Men's Group. William was a past president and secretary for the Union Lions Club, where he had still been a member. A true handyman, William enjoyed gardening and carpentry.
In addition to his wife, William is survived by his children, sister, grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John W. Bartley, son-in-law, Robert Serotkin, and brother, Edward Bartley.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home Friday at 9:45am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am at St. James the Apostle Church.
Interment will take place in St. James Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Township Lions Club in care of Secretary, Dr. Candice Macri 1702 W State St New Castle, PA 16101.
