Death of Captain Fox -- Capt. Thomas Bayley Fox, jr. of the Second Massachusetts, died at the residence of his father, Rev. T.B. Fox, in Dorchester, on Saturday afternoon, from wounds received at Gettysburg. He graduated at Harvard College in the Class of 1860, with high honors as a scholar, and was distinguished not only for his talents but for his kind heart and correct principles. He received a Boylston prize for declamation, and on Class Day delivered the oration. After graduating, he entered the law school, and after receiving his degree in 1862, obtained the commission of 2d Lieutenant on the 15th of August. Promotion in the Second Regiment has been rapid. He rose by the regular steps to be Captain and held that rank, at the Battle of Gettysburg, when on Friday morning July 3d, while bravely leading his men against the enemy, he received the wound which caused his death. He made his way home, and it was hoped that with kind nursing his hurt, though severe, would soon be cured. But Providence had willed it otherwise; his condition changed; medical skill was baffled, and today we record the sad news of his decease. One more honored name is to be added to the roll of those who have died for their country.
Capt. Fox was born in Newburyport, Feb. 1, 1839; he died July 25, 1863. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon in Rev. Mr. Hall's church in Dorchester.
