Edith Jenny Davenport, age 89, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was born on March 8, 1926 and passed away on the evening of September 24, 2015.
Edith was born in Flint, Michigan where she lived the majority of her life. She was married for 63 years to Earl Davenport and together they enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, hunting and fishing. She especially liked to water ski and spent many hours in the bright summer sun at their cabin in northern Michigan.
She loved her family and her dogs and cats and was noted for her extreme sweet tooth. Donuts, candy and deserts were always welcomed by her, yet she remained a small thin lady who weighed under 90 lbs. when she passed.
She also loved the Bible and spent countless hours studying its pages. She was especially fond of the prophetic passages telling of the Lord’s return. She was a valued member of Grace Christian Church in Hendersonville where her son, Michael, serves as pastor. Edith enjoyed working outdoors around the house tending to her plants, flowers and shrubs.
Preceded in death by her husband, Earl Davenport; grandson, Jonathan Davenport. She is survived by her son, Michael Davenport (Jan); four grandchildren, Rebecca Davenport, Rachel Jasper (Shaun), Joshua Davenport (Natalie) and Hannah Forte (Chris); six great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandson and her cat Gigi.
The family will receive visitors at Hendersonville Funeral Home on Sunday, September 27th at 1pm with the funeral service following at 2pm. A graveside committal service will be conducted on Monday, September 28th, at 10am, at Sumner Memorial Cemetery.
