Born in Pottstown, PA, he was a son of the late Leonard W. McCann and Lois Dora (Shanaman) McCann.
David was a 1964 graduate of Boyertown High School. A Veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Navy on the Aircraft Carrier Essex.
For most of his life, he was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Church, Bechtelsville, PA, where he served as a scout leader for Boy Scout Troop 291 – Sassmansville. He continued active and served for the troop on their “Board of Review”
In earlier years, he briefly worked for Uniform Tube; Boyertown Auto Body Works and for over 35 years as a field rating representative for Insurance Services Office.
David enjoyed spending time with his family; fishing, hunting, woodworking, working around his home with his tractor, remote control planes, playing pinochle and caring for his dogs, Molly and Dixie. He was an avid traveler and appreciated his trips to Ireland, Yellowstone, cruises and the many beach vacations with family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: One Son – Steven W. McCann of Boyertown, PA, One Brother – Joseph W. McCann and his wife Carol of Perkiomenville, PA, Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin infant brother – Dennis.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015 followed by David’s funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Church, 527 Hoffmansville Road, Bechtelsville, PA 19505. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, East Coventry Township, PA. Rev. John Brown will officiate.
