David N. Thompson, age 60, went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2009

Dave received his BA from Eastern University, MA from the University of Delaware, and Doctorate of Education from Nova University. He served in Christian education for 37 years, which was his passion and life-long devotion. From 1972-1997 he worked a Wilmington Christian School, where he began as a teacher and served as principal for 22 years, which allowed him to be instrumental in its expansion and set up the current Hockessin location. At WCS, he started the athletic program, coached soccer, boys' basketball, and let the girl's softball team to the state championship in 1992. From 1997-2005, Dave served as headmaster at Red Lion Christian Academy, where he initiated the expansion that developed the school from a K-8 school to the current high school. He also coached boys' basketball and started their football program. From 200-2006, he served as headmaster at Portsmouth Christian Academy in Dover, NH. In 2007, he became the headmaster at the Christian School of York, where he was wholly embraced by the community and initiated the construction of the Early Childhood Education Center, to be completed and named in his honor in May of 2009. Dave served as a speaker for A.C.S.I. (American Christian Schools International) and addressed conferences all over the country, most recently in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a gifted speaker who spoke on practical topics to help teachers-administrators grow in both their teaching and faith. He was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church for 30 years, where he was a long-term Sunday School teacher. Dave got up every morning at 5 am to read his Bible, have devotions, and pray for his school, teachers, and students. He was a beloved administrator. During his illness, he received hundreds of messages of cards and messages thanking him for his influence. David was an avid runner who ran 5 miles everyday with his dog Pirate and proudly completed the Marine Marathon in Washington, D.C. He actively served in the PA National Guard from 1971-1977. In the 1970's and 80's, he was a fast-pitch softball pitcher who traveled to many cities to compete. He was a huge fan of Philadelphia sports teams and loved to read. Dave was an incredible father and husband who loved his family very much. More than anything, he loved spending time with his children and wife, especially taking his girls to Broadway shows and camping with his son in Colorado.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Suzanne, son Jeff and daughter-in-law Molly, of Eagle, CO, daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Greg Mrozek of Bear, DE, and daughter Ashley, of New York, NY. He is also survived by his mother Doris, of Wilmington, brother Pastor Paul Thompson and family, of Aldan, PA, and sister Judy, of Wilmington. He is predeceased by his son, Scott David, and father, Reverend Arthur Thompson.

A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 6, at 11 am at Immanuel Church, 2414 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.

In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the Christian School of York's Early Education Center, 907 Greenbriar Rd., York, PA 17404
