She was born Jan. 26, 2015, in Knob Noster, Mo., to John Edward and Agnes Mary Farber.
Edda married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Gale Hughes, on Aug. 3, 1936, and to this union, two children were born. They were married 43 years until his death Jan. 31, 1980.
Edda was a member of Community of Christ Church in Independence and also in Joplin, Mo. She was very creative, enjoying quilting and sewing. She also liked reading. Edda volunteered for St. John's Hospital, in Joplin, until she was the age of 94. She and her daughter, Gayle Schaffer, relocated to Springfield after the 2011 tornado. Edda was a very loving grandmother and cared dearly for children. She was a friend to many and will be deeply missed.
Edda was preceded in death by her parents, John Edward and Agnes Mary Farber; her husband, Kenneth Gale Hughes; a sister, Ethel Hughes; and a brother, Archie Hughes.
She is survived by her children, Gayle Schaffer of Springfield, and Lawrence David Hughes, of Manassas, Va.; seven grandchildren, Tonya Hughes and Todd Hughes both of Mesa, Ariz., Dawn Schaffer, of Springfield, Frank Schaffer II, of Joplin, Mindy Schmidt, of Surf City, N.C., Lauren Hughes and Alex Hughes both of Manassas; seven great-grandchildren, Aprelia, Alivia, Madelyn, Ava Grace, Mia Rose, Frank III, and Mckenna; a brother-in-law, Roliand Hughes; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A graveside memorial will held at 10:30 a.m. on October 16, in Mound Grove Cemetery, in Independence, with Pastor Kelly Hughes officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Holden Cremation and Funeral Service, Sparta, Mo.
