Burrell Thomas (B. T.) Jones was born in 1843 in Georgia. He enlisted, as a private, in Company A, 10th Georgia Volunteer Infantry on May 10, 1861. He was captured by Union forces on September 17, 1862 during the Battle of Antietam, in Maryland, and was paroled on September 20, 1862. He returned to his unit and served until he was shot and captured during the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia, on May 6, 1864.

Private Jones was sent to Elmira Prison Camp in Elmira, NY until he was paroled on May 19, 1865. He returned to Chattanooga, TN where he married, raised a family, two sons and two daughters. 'B. T.' worked as a carpenter and car builder in Chattanooga. He died on August 24, 1893 and was buried in Citizens Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.
