FINAL RITES FOR DR. ROOT SET TOMORROW

Long Time Prominent Doctor in S. L. Dies At Age of 84 Years

Final rites for Dr. Emerson Frank Root, 84, for many years prominent in Salt Lake and western medical circles who died yesterday in his home at 3430 Kentucky Avenue of causes incident to age will be conducted tomorrow at 12 o'clock noon at 574 First South Street. The Rev. George J. Weber, Pastor, First Congregational Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The family requests that no flowers be sent.

Dr. Root, a past president of the Salt Lake County Medical Society and of the Utah State Medical Society, and of the Pacific Northwest Medical Society, also had been chief of staff of the Holy Cross Hospital.

A native of Hartford, Wis., Dr. Root was born Nov. 1, 1858, a son of Dr. Alonzo D. and Emeretta Root. He attended schools in his native state, including Doane College, which recently was chosen an "average" college of the country by a national picture magazine.

He entered Western Reserve College of Cleveland, O, where he obtained his medical degree and came to Salt Lake in 1892, practicing as a physician and surgeon.

Dr. Root was a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association. He was a member also of Mt. Moriah Lodge, No. 2, F & A M, Utah Consistory No. 1, Scottish Rite Masons, and the Utah Commandery No. 1, Knights Templar.

He is survived by two sons, Dr. Frank K. Root of Holladay and Emerson R. Root of Ogden; a daughter, Mrs. Louise Eakins of Salt Lake; a brother, G. B. Root of Alhambra, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Susie Root Rhodes of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
