Martha Hansen's life was taken by an Alaskan native she befriended while exiting a bar in Anchorage, Alaska. Her body was discovered on August 8, 1996....

Published in the Juneau Empire, Anchorage:
'As of September 21, 1997, a 22-year-old Anchorage man is heading for a long stretch in prison for a brutal murder he doesn't even remember.

Evans Lee Curtis was sentenced Friday to 99 years in prison for raping and murdering Martha Hansen, 48, in August 1996.

Hansen was raped and beaten to death in a grassy lot in downtown Anchorage. Curtis was arrested after his face was caught on a surveillance camera outside an Anchorage bar. He was seen on the videotape walking arm-in-arm down the street with Hansen on the evening of Aug. 8. She was found dead the next morning.

Curtis pleaded no contest to first-degree murder on June 6.

At the sentencing, Superior Court Judge Milton Souter called Curtis' crime the worst of the worst. He handed down the maximum sentence of 99 years in prison, but noted in court that Curtis could be eligible for parole in 22 years.

Curtis read a statement to the court saying he was sorry, but he was drunk and did not remember killing Hansen.'

Martha's case was featured on HLN's Forensic Files, Season 7-Episode 26 'Palm Print Conviction'. Thanks to forensic science using super glue vapor, fingerprints were discovered on her body linking to Evans Lee Curtis...
