Miss Burgess was the daughter of John Burgess and Elizabeth Chambliss Burgess. She was an music educator and administrator at Buford College, a women's college in Nashville, run by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Burgess Buford & Elbrige Gerry Buford. She died at Protestant Hospital from heart disease and was buried with the Bufords in their plot at Mt. Olivet.
