Son of Admiral David and Eliza (Lawrence) Jewett. He was a minister, and served as pastor of Reform Church of Piermont, NY (1857-1859), Presbyterian Church of Throgg's Neck, NY (1862-1868) and First Presbyterian Church of New Brunswick (1868-1874). He married Elizabeth Hall Dickinson on 4/22/1856. He purchased Mont Lawn in Nyack, NY, and in 1894, put at the disposal of Christian Herald, which provided summer outings for inner city children.
