Dr. Santiago E. Aguayo, 74, of Syracuse died Sunday at his daughter's home.
Born in Ecuador, he earned doctoral degrees in pharmacology and biochemistry there before coming to the United States in 1957. He was the chief clinical chemist at Borgess Memorial Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich., before moving to Syracuse in 1963 to become the director of clinical chemistry at Community-General Hospital.
In 1967, he became founder, owner and director of Syracuse Clinical and Reference Laboratories in Syracuse.
He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, Onondaga Hill.
Surviving are his wife, Amada; a son, Santiago of Syracuse; two daughters, Dana Sturick of Syracuse and Katiana Scalione of Blairstown, N.J.; a brother, Sergio of Ecuador; seven grandchildren; and several nephews.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church.
