Sergeant David Sean Owens was 28 years old and a resident of Grovetown, GA. He was originally from Montgomery, AL. Sgt. Owens proudly served his country in the United States Army. He entered the Army in July 2007. After his initial military training he served as a military policeman in Hawaii from July 2008 to August 2011. During that assignment, he served one tour of duty in Iraq from July 2009 to July 2010. Owens arrived at Fort Gordon in October 2011. He was most recently assigned as a military policeman with the 32nd Military Police Detachment, Criminal Investigation Division. During his career, he was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and two Certificates of Achievement.

The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Monday, September 28, 2015 from 6 until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial at 11 AM with Minister Dave Barkalow officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens with full military honors.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Owens. He is survived by his loving wife, Kristin Owens; his father, William David Owens; his daughter, Madelyn Owens; step-son, Bentley Hayes; two brothers, Clifford Owens (Heather), Thomas Owens; one sister, Susan Cleckler; and many extended family members and friends.

NOTE: Six witnesses said they saw Owens walking along Baker Place Road, Grovetown, GA and past DNR Agent Chaffin. Chaffin tried to get Owens to get out of the road. Owens pulled out a pistol, chambered a round and pointed the gun at Chaffin. The witnesses saw DNR Agent Chaffin shoot Owens, who then raised his own gun and shot himself in the head. An autopsy performed on Owens ruled that he died from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
