Vickers Wellington HX690 of 179 RAF Squadron took off from Gibraltar during the evening of 21 Jan 1943 on an anti-submarine patrol over the Mediterranean Sea. There was no communication from the Wellington after it had taken flight from its Gibraltar base, and it never returned to its base.
All six servicemen presumably died at sea.
