In loving memory of Joseph T. Barnett who passed away peacefully on September 21, 2015. He was born on June 5, 1922, in Mebane, North Carolina and moved to California when he was 18. He fell in love with Palos Verdes Estates after he started surfing at Bluff Cove beginning in 1947 and moved to the city in 1958. He was passionately devoted to the City of Palos Verdes Estates and served on the City Council for 12 years during which time he was Mayor for 8 years. He also spent 18 years on the City's Planning Commission overseeing development of the City. He began his career in Engineering and after falling in love with Palos Verdes Estates he became a real estate broker in 1962 and was involved in real estate until his passing. During his tenure, he served on the local Board of Realtors as President as well as a Director of the California Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. He is survived by his wife, Rita; his two children, Nancy and Tom; and grandchildren, Melissa and Tyler, and sister, Nancy Barnett.
