Robert Eugene Brokaw "Bob" passed away on October 16, 2011 in DuPont, WA at the age of 77. He was born in Fort Lewis, WA to Maxwell and Myrtle Brokaw on October 28, 1933, the eldest of three children. Robert attended Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia and Pacific Lutheran University where he earned an athletic scholarship for football. Robert left college to enlist in the Navy where he proudly served for 22 years. Robert was stationed on the USS Kittyhawk, USS Bausell, and in Japan. He also completed tours of duty in Vietnam and Korea. After retiring from the Navy, Robert worked for the U.S. Postal Service in downtown Tacoma for over 20 years. After retiring the second time, Bob enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and watching his grandchildren participate in their many activities. An inspiring coach, he touched the lives of many athletes in Tacoma and Spanaway. Bob was also deeply involved in his community. He was a Master Mason for over 40 years, serving as the Worshipful Master at the Fairweather Lodge #82 in Tacoma, WA. Bob was also active with the Shrine and the Eastern Star. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Maxwell and Myrtle Brokaw, his sister Barbara Brokaw Barton and granddaughter Malina McGivern. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Umeka, their children; Barbara (Eric), Thomas (Diane), Susan (Bobby), grandchildren; David, Ryan, Kaila, and Noelani, sister Christine Brokaw, and niece Alison Barton Silliman (Bill). There will be a memorial service at Scottish Rite Hall, 817 South Vassault in Tacoma on Friday October 28, 2011 at 5:30pm.
