Katie Wagener was the second of eleven children born to German immigrants Henry Wagener and Margeretha Englebrecht Wagener. Henry founded the first commercial brewery in Utah at the mouth of Emigration Canyon in 1864.
It was called the California Brewery.
The Wagener name was also spelled Wagner at various times and by different members of the same family.
Katie's German grandparents were Jacob Wagner and Katherine Englebrecht.
