408 Squadron's Handley Page Halifax B. MKII JB841 aircraft, on a major air operation over Dortmund in Germany--with an aircrew of seven, did not make it back to its base at Leeming. It is thought that the Halifax was hit by ground anti-aircraft during the operation resulting in its crashing near Bergkamen and taking the lives of the entire crew.

Flight Sergeant David Slabotsky is commemorated on Page 214 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.
He is also commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
