Brian Keith Vaughn, 51, a lifelong resident of North Vernon, passed away at 3:42 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at his home.
Born Jan. 3, 1964, at Jackson County Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour, he was the son of Ray E. and Karen R. Stout Vaughn, both of whom survive in North Vernon.
Brian graduated from Jennings County High School in North Vernon in 1982 and entered the United States Navy a week later. In his eight years with the Navy, he served on the nuclear submarines USS Houston, USS Dace and USS Philadelphia. He most recently worked for Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co. as a boiler inspector.
Since 2003, Brian had served as president of the Pioneer Engineers Club of Indiana Inc. in Rushville. He enjoyed classical music, playing chess and reading and was very passionate about steam engines. He purchased his first Keck-Gonnerman Steam Engine in 1989 and was extremely proud of it.
Besides his parents, survivors include a brother, Jonathan L. (Stephanie) Vaughn of North Vernon; and two nephews, Austin Hunter Vaughn and Mason Cole Vaughn, both of North Vernon.
He was preceded in death by five uncles, Steven Vaughn, Logan Vaughn, Lowell Stout, Stanley Stout and Paul Stout; and grandparents, Harold and Edna Vaughn and Basil and Elnor Stout.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Adams Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Crothersville with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Burial will follow at Crothersville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Jennings County Hospice or Lymphoma Leukemia Foundation.
