Nancy Irene Ramey, 65, passed away on September 20, 2015, at her home in Forest, Virginia. She was born on September 26, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Lloyd Thomas and Laverna Ruth (Martin) Wiggins. She married Roy Richard Ramey on January 24, 1970, in Independence, Missouri. Nancy graduated from the Jennie Lund School of Practical Nursing, Independence, Missouri, in 1969, and was a nurse for 31 years before retiring in 2000. Her last position was with Westminster Canterbury. Nancy came to Forest, Virginia, in 1988, and was a member of Berean Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Mercier and husband, Korey, of Blacksburg, Virginia; son, Michael Ramey and wife, Tara, of Kents Store, Virginia; and seven grandchildren, Corbin, Asher, and Rowan Mercier; and Hannah, Nathan, Selah, and Andrew Ramey. She is also survived by her brothers, Jerry (Diana) Wiggins of Capitan, New Mexico, and Martin (Linda) Wiggins of Austin, Texas. Nancy loved being with her husband, children, and grandchildren, and will be greatly missed. She was a blessing from God to her husband, family, and friends; and was the Sunshine of our home. Nancy was confined to a wheelchair the last several years of her life, but frequently had dreams of running up stairs. Imagine her joy at leaping up them to join her Savior in Heaven. Graveside services will be conducted at Greenwood Cemetery, Bedford, Virginia, by Dr. James Freerksen at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015. "I am the resurrection and the life; she who believes in me will live even if she dies."

Nancy's father served in the US Marines for 30 years, hence the family frequently moved. During her childhood, she lived in locations such as Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point, North Carolina; Atlanta and Albany, Georgia; and Santa Ana, California. When her father was serving overseas, the family lived in Independence, Missouri, where her maternal relatives were located. Nancy graduated from Foothill High School, Tustin, California, in 1967, then moved to Independence, Missouri, where she attended nursing school.

After marrying, Nancy lived in Rolla, Missouri, until 1974 while her husband was in graduate school. There she worked in the emergency room at Phelps County Medical Center, a job she loved. As her husband's career progressed, she later lived in Crown Point, Indiana (to 1979), Mexico, Missouri (to 1986), Grayslake, Illinois (to 1988), and lastly to Forest, Virginia. Nancy was a nurse for 30 years before retiring, and loved being a nurse.

Nancy was very proud of her children and grandchildren. Our daughter, Jennifer, is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Our son, Michael, is a Software Development Manager. Nancy's only regret about leaving was that she would not live to see our grandchildren grow to adulthood.

Nancy died in our home at 4:40 AM from cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, children, and their spouses. Our grandchildren were sleeping elsewhere in our home. Our son, who is a woodworker, lovingly made her coffin, and our grandchildren placed their hand prints on it using black paint. Nancy truly cared about others, and will always be loved, remembered, and missed. She was my beloved wife for 45 years, 7 months, and 26 days.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
May the Lord shine his face upon you,
And be gracious to you,
May the Lord lift his countenance upon you,
And comfort you
May the Lord surround you with His love
And give you peace, forever.
