Janet Ann Rawie, nee Paul, 80, of O'Fallon, Ill., passed away at her home Sunday, September 20, 2015, where she was under the care of Hospice of Southern Illinois since early July. Janet now rests peacefully in death, no longer suffering from the illness that ravished her body and soul. Janet was born November 4, 1934, in Hays, Kan. She was the daughter of a rail road family and grew up in Ellis, Kan. She graduated with honors from Ellis High School in 1952. Following high school, Janet attended Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kan. She started her secretarial career in January of 1957, in Denver, Colo. While in Denver, Jane met, and on April 21, 1961, married Michael E. Rawie, a member of the United States Air Force. Their family began with the birth of their daughter, Michelle Ann, on December 15, 1966. Due to the nature of her husband's work, Janet made frequent relocations: Kadena A.B., Okinawa, Richards-Gebaur A.F.B., Kansas City, Mo., and Dover A.F.B., Dover, Del., where their son, Michael Paul, was born on October 19, 1971. Janet and her family finally settled in O'Fallon, Ill., in July 1985, following her husband's assignment to HQ Military Airlift Command. Janet was a loving wife and devoted, caring mother, who maintained the household and raised two children, while she also continued her career with civil service at Scott A.F.B. until her retirement "With 35 years of faithful and devoted service on the occasion of retirement from employment with the United States Air Force on January 2, 1998." Following retirement, Janet served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, providing assistance and comfort to military personnel transiting the Scott A.F.B. Medical Center. Janet was also a volunteer O'Fallon Township High School "Band Mother", frequently chaperoning students on out of town band trips. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Earl F. and Blanche L., nee Weinholtz Paul, of Ellis, Kan.; and a sister, Carolyn Havey of Dallas, Pa. Janet is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. U.S.A.F. ret. Michael E. Rawie of O'Fallon, Ill.; a daughter, Michelle Ann Rawie of O'Fallon, Ill.; a son, Michael Paul Rawie of O'Fallon, Ill.; and grandchildren, Alexis Ann Rawie and Clarke Michael Rawie of Washington, Mo.
