Deloris Aldeen Nichols was born December 19, 1919 in Beaver, Oklahoma to James and Jessie (Strong) Carter. She graduated high school and she married Jimmie Dean Nichols on July 4, 1941 in Beaver, Oklahoma. To this union was born one daughter, Jessie Aldeen on November 29, 1946 and she had an adopted daughter, Shirley Vincent. Deloris “Dort” graduated from cosmetology school and was a beautician for at least three years.
When she was a teenager, she had several pen pals. Dort and Jimmie were rock hounds. They created an extensive assortment of items, including illuminated panels of thin sliced rock for lamp shades and fire places as well as tables. They also collected butterflies. After retirement, they loved fishing and traveling throughout the United States with their little dog, “Buster”. Dort enjoyed visiting with people and making them laugh. Her humor was down-home and straight forward. She enjoyed playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Nichols, her daughters, Jessie and Shirley, and her grandson Robert Heald, Jr.
Deloris passed on September 13, 2015 in Sykesville, Maryland at the home of her granddaughter, Tammy Good at the age of 95.
Deloris is survived by John Vincent of Utah; Tammy Good of Maryland; James Heald of Wyoming; great grandchildren, Marcus Heald of Freedom, Oklahoma, Brooklyn Swiggett of Recluse, Wyoming; five great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Late in life, she was gifted with a cat named "Miss Kitty" who became her constant loving companion.
