Doug DuBois, 78, of Wessington, was called home Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Inver Grove Heights, MN surrounded by loved ones when he was summoned to his final resting place after a valiant fight against ALS.
Funeral service and military honors were Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington with Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Burial was in the Wessington Cemetery at a later date.
Ronald Douglas DuBois (Doug) was born on August 2, 1937 in Hitchcock, South Dakota; the second son of Bob and Lura (Payne) DuBois. He enlisted in the US Army in 1954 as an Engineer Supply Specialist and was stationed in France for three years; where he earned a Good Conduct Medal. Upon returning home, he met Charlotte J. Munion in Wessington and they were married on May 20, 1961. Their first home was in Kansas before moving back to Wessington to establish their permanent home and raise their family.
Doug spent a short time running a local gas station. He was then employed by Casavan Apiaries before venturing into his own bee keeping business. He did this for many years until a local job opportunity as the City Maintenance Supervisor presented itself. That would allow him to stay home with his family instead of leaving for several months every year. He took great pride in his community and worked very hard to keep things looking nice and operating smoothly. He also enjoyed doing odd jobs for almost everyone in town whether it was plumbing, electrical, carpentry or chain saw sharpening. You name it and he did it!
In his very little free time he enjoyed fishing on the river with friends and camping with his family. He was a great dad and spent hours teaching his girls to play ball, ride a bike, fish and drive a car. Doug was never happier than when he had a house full of family and friends. More was always merrier for him. Doug was also an active member of the Legion and the Presbyterian Church.
Memories of Doug will be treasured by his surviving daughters: Robin Lee (Shane) Sivertsen, Miller, Nicole Annette (Jim) Roubik, Inver Grove Heights, MN and Eva Sancha Melia of Barcelona, Spain; three granddaughters: Samantha Kay Sivertsen, Elizabeth Rose, and Jenna Nicole Roubik; two grandsons: Drew Douglas and Kaden Lee Sivertsen; three brothers: Roger (Sally) DuBois, Gordon DuBois, and Alan (Deb) DuBois; three sisters: Carolyn (Dave) Filholm, Evon (Butch) Schmidt and Gordette (Tony) Oliva; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlotte (April 2007); daughter, Christine Kay (stillborn March 1965); son, Daniel Douglas (August 1968); and sister, Deanna Kleinsasser (December 1984).
