She attended Hibbing High School. After graduation, she enrolled in the U.S. Army, joining the Signal Corps., and became a cryptographer. She served in Germany during the Korean War.
There she met and married the love of her life, John “Jack” Williams, and they were married for 62 years. During their lifetime together, they lived in Germany, Arizona, Africa and finally settled in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Once there, Dodie attended college, receiving her master’s degree. Dodie was a high school history teacher for 32 years in the Deadwood-Lead area, retiring in 1990.
She loved to learn and would take every opportunity that came her way to learn something new. In her lifetime, she was also a telephone operator, worked in the casinos and was a Mary Kay representative for many years.
She was a member of the Easter Star 44, VFW Post 5969 Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion 0031 and Beta Sigma Phi.
Dodie is survived by her brother, Donald (Bea) Kerr; her niece and nephew, Jaqi and Mark Vosburg; and many nieces and nephews and their families; and longtime friend, Ginny Dahl.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 2012, as well as a sister, brothers and stepsiblings.
Interment at the Fort Meade Cemetery.
