Jessie Abernathie Blaylock was born on November 21, 1917 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Judah Palestine and Mary Evaline (Angle) Seabaugh. Her surviving siblings include Ruby Bollinger of Phoenix and May Rayburn of Cape Girardeau. Her parents and three brothers preceded her in death.

She married the Rev. Gordon C. Abernathie Sr. on May 23, 1936 in Benton. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1975. To this union were born children, Jan Fletcher of Murphysboro, Sonya Adkerson of Glen Carbon and Dr. Gordon Abernathie Jr. of Rapid City, South Dakota.

She later married Lester "Bud" Blaylock in Boskeydell on January 1, 1980. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1994.

Mrs. Blaylock had served as minister for Central Baptist Church in Willisville for several years and was active in the Boskydell Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Murphysboro. She was also active in the Helen D'aboy Circle at First Baptist Church.
