Dean was born January 2, 1925, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Ray Isaac Powers and Wilma Ray (Wells) Powers. Dean attended Anamosa schools.
Dean served in the United States Army in the WWII European Theater from 1943 through 1945, and was involved in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes. Dean received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Ribbon.
On June 4, 1948, Dean and Ollie Jean Bemrose were united in marriage. They divorced in 1952, and remarried on December 16, 1972, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester, Iowa.
Dean worked as a bricklayer and construction worker with Laborers 43 until his retirement.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Rose Marie Ridenour; a granddaughter, Kendra Ridenour; brothers, Merlyn, Glen Eldon, and Darryll; and sisters, Helen and Barbara.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester by Rev. Tony Ede. Family will greet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Bohnenkamp Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, rural Masonville.
